SANTA BARBARA – Barbara (AN)
Of a lovely straw yellow with green highlights, it is crystal clear and nicely consistent. The bouquet, intense and quite complex, opens on the fruited notes of plum and peach and floral notes of hawthorn and Spanish broom, to close on slightly herbaceous and mineral notes. On the palate it is intense and persistent, fine and well-balanced, of good body. It is dry, warm and pleasingly soft and fresh together. An elegant and enjoyable wine that closes on a sapid note with a slight hint of bitter that is so typical of the Verdicchio. The winery is located 25Km inland from the Adriatic coast, in the town of Barbara, and for several years now, it has been involved in a research project which aims to highlight and promote the products of this great land of the Marche.
The recommended pairing: with Spigola all’acqua pazza (sea bass poached in a light and flavorful broth)

MONCARO – Montecarotto (AN)
It has a lovely straw yellow color with green reflexes, is lively, crystal clear and of good consistency. To the nose it opens richly on the aromatic notes of white fruit, along with citrus and floral notes of Spanish broom and acacia blossoms, to close on herbaceous notes of sage, typical of the Verdicchio. It is fine of with good complexity. On the palate it is intense and persistent, elegant and full, well balanced in softness that is nicely sustained by freshness and sapidity. Moncaro is the largest winegrowing business of its kind in the Marche region; it uses low environmental impact growing and production techniques and it owns three wineries located in the D.O.C. wine producing zones for Verdicchio, Rosso Conero and Rosso Piceno.
Recommended pairing: with first courses and fried fish.
San Sisto 2008 - Verdicchio Castelli Jesi Cl. Ris. D.o.c.
FAZI BATTAGLIA – Castelplanio (AN)
Of a gorgeous, bright golden yellow and very consistent. To the nose it opens intense and complex, richly laden with fruited notes of yellow peach, plum, tropical fruits and citrus, to follow with floral notes of narcissus and Spanish broom, herbaceous notes of sage, plenty of sweet spices and closing on mineral notes. On the palate it is full, with good body, quite fine and balanced, intense and persistent. There is significant alcohol content and it is pleasingly soft, with a good degree of freshness and nicely rhythmic sapidity. This winery which earned the merit of having been the first to get people talking about Verdicchio in the world, has now come to its fourth generation of owners who continue to believe in the importance of the Verdicchio vine stock as they adopt careful, modern winegrowing techniques.
Recommended pairing: because of its structure this wine goes well with rich substantial foods such as oven-baked fish with potatoes and vegetables and well-aged cheeses.
Versiano 2010 - Verdicchio Castelli Jesi Cl. Sup. D.o.c.
VIGNAMATO – San Paolo di Jesi (AN)
A deep straw-yellow with green highlights, it displays crystal clarity and good consistency. To the nose it is intense and complex, opening on the fruited scents of pear, apple, white peach, plum and floral notes of acacia and Spanish broom. The mineral note is quite evident. On the palate it is dry and warm, nicely rounded, fresh and sapid. With a good balance, it is intense and persistent, with good body. This selection is obtained from the oldest vineyards and allowed to rest on fine lees until springtime. A traditional family-run business, the winery is situated in a hilly area on the right flank of the Esino River Valley, the most typical growing zone. The estate consists of 10 hectares of vineyards that yield both white and red grapes, cultivated according to a system of low production which pays careful attention to all of the phases of the wine-making process, with particular care given to the harvesting phase.
Recommended pairing: with a light and crispy Fritto misto di pesce (classic Adriatic fish fry)
Ammazzaconte 2008 – Verdicchio Castelli Jesi D.o.c.
CONTI DI BUSCARETO – Ostra (AN)
Of a lovely straw yellow with green highlights, it is crystal clear and consistent. Intense and complex to the nose, its bouquet opens on notes of Spring wildflowers, followed by yellow fruit such as peach, Golden apple, green almond, sage and it closes on mineral notes. On the palate, it is dry, warm, fresh and sapid; intense, persistent, fine, well balanced and of good body. The Conti di Buscareto winery, founded in 2002, was born of two entrepreneurs’ passion for wine. With its 70 hectares of vineyards that are self-governed, located in the heart of the Marche, the winery produces Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, Lacrima di Morro d’Alba and Rosso Piceno, placing particular attention on each phase of production so as to obtain excellent quality wines.
Recommended pairing: with a seafood risotto or fresh, raw seafood.
Cumaro 2008 – Conero D.o.c.g.
UMANI RONCHI – Osimo (AN)
Of a deep ruby red, it is limpid and consistent. To the nose it is intense, complex and fine, with rich notes of red fruit preserves, such as cherry, plum, blackberry and blueberry; there follow floral notes of violets and carnations, definite, but pleasant spiced notes of vanilla, chocolate, liquorice, pepper, tobacco and leather. The finale is long and ethereal. On the palate it is equally intense and persistent and quite fine. It enters dry, with a good alcohol content, soft, tannic and quite sapid. The winery estates include 210 hectares of vineyards that are spread among twelve parcels of land situated in the classic DOC production zones of the Marche, with unique characteristics in terms of enhancement of the terroir and autochthonous vines; the winery prides itself on its use of the most advanced wine growing and production techniques.
Recommended pairing: with charcoal-grilled red meats and game.
Sassi Neri 2006 – Conero D.o.c.g.
FATTORIA LE TERRAZZE - Numana (AN)
The color is an impenetrable, deep ruby red, clear and very consistent. To the nose, it is rich, intense and complex. The primary, secondary and tertiary notes blend together, then reveal themselves in succession in the wine chalice: red fruit, such as cherry, plum and blueberry, followed by violets, then the sweet and spicy tones of vanilla, cocoa, coffee, pepper, cinnamon, licorice and tobacco. On the palate, it is both persistent and enveloping, with robust tannins, supported by softness and extract. The balance and evolutionary phase are good. The winery built in 1882 is not only a beautiful place to visit for the surrounding landscape, but it is also of historical interest; since its foundation, the business has been making wine from the produce of its estate-owned vineyards located in the heart of the Rosso Conero production zone.
Recommended pairing: with red meats and Brasato (braised beef in wine)
Villa Malacari 2008 – Rosso Conero D.o.c.
MALACARI – Offagna (AN)
Of an intense and lively ruby red color, with violet reflexes, it has good consistency. To the nose it is fine, intense and nicely complex, offering a typical Montepulciano bouquet; it opens on fruited notes of cherry, plum, slightly under ripe wild berries, along with the floral notes of roses and violets, to close on pleasantly spiced tones. On the palate it is intense and quite persistent, of good body and fine; it enters dry, warm, soft, quite fresh and with the right amount of tannins. The winery has a long history in the winegrowing business and the building that houses it dates back to 1668. The property comprises 19 hectares of Montepulciano vineyards situated in close proximity to Ancona. All of the production phases from the choice of the planting to the low-yield cultivation methods, from the harvesting to the vinification and ageing in wood are all carried out in such a way as to preserve the territorial culture.
Recommended pairing: with Tagliatelle in a ragout sauce, meat-filled Cannelloni, lasagna.
Il Roccuccio 2008 - Marche Rosso I.g.t.
SERRA SAN MARTINO – Serra de’ Conti (AN)
Of a ruby red color, it is limpid and very consistent. To the nose it is intense, complex and fine, opening on a rich variety of red fruit scents, including cherry, red currant, plum, to follow with floral notes of carnations and violets; it closes on evident spiced notes of pepper, cocoa, vanilla and liquorice. On the palate it is intense and persistent, with a good body; there is remarkable alcoholic tenor and good tannins which will evolve with time, to yield a greater roundness. It was a passion for red wine and for the softly rounded hills of the Marche that brought Kirsten and Thomas Weydemann to undertake a wine-growing activity in the vicinity of Serra de’ Conti. The varieties they cultivate, all reds, are Montepulciano, Merlot, Syrah and Sagrantino, with an average yield per plant of 1 kg. Their annual production amounts to approximately 10,000 bottles.
Recommended pairing: game meats and roast lamb.
Rustico del Pozzo Buono 2010 – Lacrima Morro d’Alba D.o.c.
VICARI NAZZARENO e VICO - Morro d’Alba (AN)
Crimson red, lively and clear, it is quite consistent. The nose immediately tells you it is a Lacrima, with its typical bouquet of roses, violets and cherries, to close on fine spiced notes. On the palate it is nicely balanced, leaning more towards the fresh rather than the softness. The characteristic tannins are moderate and it has good body. Situated in the heart of Lacrima D.O.C. country, in the gentle hills of Morro d’Alba, the small, family-run winery boasts a modern structure and a business that is in the process of expanding. The vineyards are bathed in sun from a southern exposure which creates the ideal microclimate to ensure the full ripening of the grapes
Recommended pairing: with traditional pasta dishes like tagliatelle or vincisgrassi (Marche-style lasagna); with cured meats, cheeses; with blue fish or Raguse in porchetta (sea snails in tomato and wild fennel).
